Many of the comments are about Julie being a force of nature as a colleague or an encourager but I knew Jul first when we 14 years olds as freshman in high school. We became immediate friends. She was smart and funny and talented. Even then, she was a leader, a kind person who listened and never forgot what was important to you. We were best friends through high school and college. We went to NYC by ours selves as 17 year olds, we sang in a musical group (with Julie on guitar), we went to Senior Prom together, had too many sleepovers, and never stopped laughing. We hitchhiked in Europe after junior year in college when she left me in Rome to go back to NY to see Dennis.I was in her wedding party, We met in NYC for dinners when she came east. One of my favorite memories was in the 90's when we decided to meet in San Francisco for a weekend. We never left the hotel but talked for three days. To me she was never JuliefuckingMancini but my friend Jul. She'll always be in my soul and my heart. She always gave terrific gifts and the best was herself.
