Lily Abood

Yep, Julie did change my life. She called me on my shit and helped me to reckon with and recognize who I was, and what I was made of. Not from abstract challenges or “you can do it” pep talk, but from real, honest, hilarious connections and queries. She asked the best questions in the universe. Truly.

I admire her so much. For her send-off at Mercy Corps, I brought my one-month old son Otis in a homemade onesie – “Julie is awesome” it said. It felt so important to me to be there - to honor all that she did to build the Action Center and community in that HQ building. To build up all of us. “Fucking Otis” (as she lovingly called him) cried the whole time. She told me to get the fuck out of there. I did.

I don’t know yet how to talk about her in the past tense. It hurts. I fucking love you, Julie. Thank you. And thank you Peter & family for creating this space to share.
